FDG-PET and colon cancer
نویسنده
چکیده
Imaging colorectal cancer has become a major indication for positron emission tomography using fluorodeoxyglucose (FDG–PET). In primary diagnosis and staging, the role for this technique is limited but FDG–PET has proved highly accurate in the detection of recurrent tumour. The three main indications are (i) characterisation of a residual structural lesion after definitive therapy, (ii) pre-operative staging prior to resection of apparently isolated metastasis, and (iii) investigation of rising carcinoembryonic antigen (CEA) in a patient with normal structural imaging. The diagnostic accuracy of FDG–PET translates to changes in management in a large number of patients, resulting in improved costeffectiveness. FDG–PET is fast becoming the standard of clinical care for patients with recurrent colorectal cancer.

Detection of prostate cancer by an FDG-PET cancer screening program: results from a Japanese nationwide survey
Objective(s): The aim of this study was to analyze detection rates and effectiveness of 18F-fluorodeoxyglucose positron emission tomography (FDG-PET) cancer screening program for prostate cancer in Japan, which is defined as a cancer-screening program for subjects without known cancer. It contains FDG-PET aimed at detection of cancer at an early stage with or without additional screening tests ...
متن کاملFDG PET in the management of lung cancer
We describe a patient with newly diagnosed limy cancer. Staging was performed with CT and mediastinoscopy. FDG PET scan was performed and confirmed increased metabolic activity in the primary tumor as well as the hilar lymph node. Seven months after initial presentation, the patient was found to have two lytic lesions in the pelvis on plain radiograph. Hone scan was negative but PET demon...
متن کاملTriage of Limited Versus Extensive Disease on 18F-FDG PET/CT Scan in Small Cell lung Cancer
Objective(s): Small cell lung cancer (SCLC) is an aggressive neuroendocrine carcinoma, which accounts for 10-15% of pulmonary cancers and exhibits early metastatic spread. This study aimed to determine the added value of 18F-FDG PET/CT imaging in tumor, node, and metastasis (TNM) staging of SCLC, compared to the conventional computed tomography (CT) scan and its potential role as a prognosticat...
متن کاملAn FDG-PET/CT-Positive Lesion Mimicking Local Recurrence of Colon Cancer 5 Years after Radical Colectomy
BACKGROUND Radical resection of colorectal cancer yields satisfactory results. Even if the cancer recurs, long-term survival is expected through further surgical resection of the recurrent disease. For early detection of recurrent lesions, we routinely perform periodic blood tests and imaging studies, in which 18F-fluorodeoxyglucose-glucose positron emission tomography (FDG-PET) plays an import...

Objective(s): We aim to investigate the clinical impact of 18F-FDG PET/CT in managing patients with gynecological malignancies and pelvic or extrapelvic lymph nodes that are of equivocal significance on conventional imaging. Methods: We retrospectively evaluated 18F-FDG PET/CT scans of patients with gynecologic tumors who were referred to King Hussein Cancer Center from January 2010 to August 20...
